Microsoft Shatters Patch Tuesday Records with 622 Security Fixes

Posted in: Cyber Security & Microsoft 15/07/26

Microsoft has released its largest Patch Tuesday update on record, addressing 622 security vulnerabilities across its products. The figure more than triples the previous record of 206 vulnerabilities patched just one month earlier. In addition, Microsoft Edge received fixes for 428 Chromium-related vulnerabilities, highlighting the growing scale and complexity of modern cybersecurity threats.

Among the vulnerabilities patched this month, 58 were classified as critical, while two were already being actively exploited by attackers. A further vulnerability had been publicly disclosed, increasing the likelihood of exploitation if systems remain unpatched.

Several high-profile Microsoft products were affected, including Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), SharePoint, BitLocker, Copilot, Exchange Server, and Microsoft Office. Notable issues included privilege escalation vulnerabilities, remote code execution risks, and spoofing attacks that could allow cybercriminals to gain unauthorised access or execute malicious code.

Security researchers have raised concerns that the rise of AI-assisted vulnerability discovery may be contributing to the growing number of security flaws being uncovered. While Microsoft has not confirmed the role of AI in identifying this month’s vulnerabilities, the sheer volume of fixes suggests that automated tools are becoming increasingly influential in modern security research.

What This Means for Businesses

For organisations of all sizes, this update serves as an important reminder that effective patch management remains one of the most critical cyber security practices. Delaying security updates can leave systems exposed to vulnerabilities that are already known to attackers.

At IT Ambulance, we recommend:

  • Applying Microsoft security updates as soon as practical.
  • Prioritising patches for internet-facing and business-critical systems.
  • Reviewing endpoint, server, and Microsoft 365 security configurations.
  • Maintaining a robust vulnerability management and backup strategy.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, staying current with software updates is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce risk and protect business operations.
