Microsoft patches nearly 1,000 security flaws

Posted in: Cyber Security & Microsoft 09/09/26

Microsoft has released its biggest-ever Patch Tuesday update overnight fixing 974 vulnerabilities across Windows, Office, SQL and developer tools. More than 110 are rated critical – and two are already being actively exploited.

Why are so many flaws being found? Security researchers are increasingly using AI-powered tools to scan software, spot unusual patterns and identify weaknesses far faster than manual checks alone. This is helping uncover more vulnerabilities sooner but it also means businesses need a clear, proactive patching process to keep pace.

What does this mean for your business?

Not every update will affect every organisation, but the scale of this release makes prioritisation essential. The biggest risks include attackers gaining higher-level access, remotely running malicious code and stealing sensitive information.

  • Patch quickly – especially internet-facing and business-critical systems.
  • Prioritise the real risks – focus first on vulnerabilities that affect your setup.
  • Check protection – confirm updates have installed successfully across every device.
