Don’t Let Unsupported Windows Versions Put Your Business at Risk

Posted in: Microsoft 15/09/26

Out-of-support Microsoft Windows products may still switch on and appear to work as normal, but they no longer receive the protection your business depends on. For Windows 10, Microsoft support ended on 14th October 2025, meaning technical support, feature updates and security updates are no longer provided. Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 have already passed end of support, and Windows Server 2016 will fall out of extended support on 12th January 2027.

That creates a serious and growing risk. Once a system is unsupported, newly discovered vulnerabilities will remain unpatched, leaving your business more exposed to cyber-attacks, malware, ransomware, data loss, downtime and compliance issues. It can also make cyber insurance, audits and supplier security requirements harder to satisfy.

The key risks include:

  • No regular Microsoft security updates for unsupported products
  • Greater exposure to cyber criminals targeting known vulnerabilities
  • Increased risk of business interruption and costly recovery work
  • Potential compliance and insurance concerns
  • Reduced compatibility with modern software, hardware and cloud services

The good news is that there are clear options available, from upgrading compatible desktop devices to Windows 11, replacing ageing server hardware, or modernising server workloads.

IT Ambulance can help you identify which machines and servers are still running unsupported or soon-to-be-unsupported Windows versions, assess the risk, and create a practical upgrade plan that keeps disruption to a minimum.
