Dire Risk of Data Wiping Attacks

Posted in: Microsoft 27/01/22

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) has warned of the likelihood of data wiping attacks occurring in the light of an increasingly menacing stance being taken by Russia as it stands poised to attack the Ukraine.

Last week a number of leading Ukrainian websites were attacked and wiped or defaced likely using the CVE-2021-32648 vulnerability in the OctoberCMS platform. The Ukrainian authorities are investigating the use of Log4j vulnerabilities and stolen credentials as another means of access to the networks and servers.

IT Ambulances advice is simle and clear. Make sure the credentials to your website are changed to a Unique and Strong Password. Your website and any plug-ins that it utilises need to be patched and up to data. Secure a back up of your website that can be quickly redeployed in the event of an attack.
